Magical, Ethereal, Spiritual

I’ve always been intrigued by the pictures I’ve seen of lantern festivals around the world…usually in remote places like Thailand or India. They look so magical, spiritual and just plain cool! Anyway, I think I was just googling “lantern festivals” one day and saw that there’d be one somewhat close, the RISE festival, in the Mojave dessert, outside Las Vegas. So, over 6 months ago I bought a couple of tickets & so did Taylor & Dan.

the gorgeous sunset was a precursor of what was to come

I never imagined how cool it would be (…&yes I would do it again next year@). I think I’ve said it many times before, but a picture says a thousand words…and it’s hard to describe something so magical, emotional & spiritual.Enjoy..and hopefully the video works too, ’cause that captures it best.

my neighbor & friend, Jan, joined us too…it took two people to set them aloft. They were big!

Thousand of lanterns circled around us!

the evening culminated with a spectacular fireworks show

….then we drove back to Vegas to spend the night…ugh, not as magical! I’ve been to Vegas quite a few times and had fun, but after such a cool experience it was just a bit too many lights & sounds!

  1. Oh. My. God. This has got to be one of my favorite posts of yours. What a fantastic thing to do. I want to go with you next year. You are incredibly talented at living life as it was meant to be lived – FULLY. (But yeah, Vegas after? Probably not.)

  2. SO MAGICAL! I, too, am inspired to do that one day. Wow.
And, yeah, Vegas? Not so much.
Thanks for sharing this event…this idea will stay with me. What would I write on the lantern if I sent one into the sky? Hmmmmm….
    Great food for thought.
